Vacation part 2

We had such a nice time being away on vacation that we decided to extend it as long as possible. On Friday we spent the whole day at the beach. It was beautiful weather, the kids dug in the sand while Tyler and I just sat on our beach towels and relaxed. A moment like that is quite a rarity in our household!

Josie though the waves were funny, they kept teasing her!

Here is Jack stomping on his sand castle.

Later that night we put up our tent in the family room and Tyler and Jack "camped out". We roasted marshmallows on the grill and made Nutella and peanut butter Smores. This was my kind of camping!

Salmon Lake

We had a wonderful vacation last week. We were up in the heart of BC, at a remote lake that only fly fishermen know about called Salmon Lake. My mother and father in Law, Shirley and Phil, love to go up there every year. This year we decided to join them along with Tyler's Aunt and Uncle, Julie and Iz, and their four kids. It's on this huge cattle ranch, I think one of the biggest in Canada, and the nearest town is an hour away on a dirt road. Here are some wild ponies that we saw on the way.

Our cabins were right by the lake and had a beautiful view, Jack loved to run around in the tall grass and hide. It was great for us to be away from TV, cell phones, and computers for a whole week.

Jack went fishing with Tyler and Grandpa Phil on the first day, he even got to drive the boat. Look at this big fish he caught!

Josie had fun with Shelby and Isabelle, here she is at our cabin with her cousin Isabelle. Here they are picking flowers with Grandma, Jack was so sweet to make me a nice bouquet.

We went in the pool the next day, Josie was unsure at first so she got warmed up on Larry the Lobster (named by aunt Julie). She eventually went in and both the kids loved it. Although Jack kept wanting to ride in Josie's baby floaty.
Whoops, I forgot our cabin keys at the pool, don't they look excited?

On Wednesday Grandpa Phil found out about a secret lake that you could hike to called Beautiful lake. We ended up doing more off-roading then hiking but it was still really nice. Here is a picture of Salmon lake on the way up.

We found this curious wooden hut with a fire pit in the middle of it, apparently it was a rustic sauna? I guess even hunters like to have spa retreats once in a while, who knew?

Here we are having our picnic, Josie was ready for more hiking.

We came back on Thursday night, just in time for band practice. Jack keeps saying "mom, I miss Salmon Lake", I think we will definitely be back!

The 4th of July

On the 4th we drove up to Bellingham to visit with Tyler's side of the family. The kids always have so much fun with their cousins. Sophia loves to play with Josie.

Here are Jack and Issac, only two months apart, when they get together you better watch out!

After our patriotic photo shoot, we thought it would be fun to have lunch in Fairhaven, but of course nothing was open because it was the 4th of July. So we ended up at this great family restaurant called McDonald's.
Josie got to meet Ronald!

This was the first year that we let the kids stay up to watch fireworks. Tyler's Aunt and Uncle Karl and Karla have a great home in the country and always put on a huge display. Jack really loved it, but after a while he decided it would be safest to watch under the table.

It was a little bit much for Josie though, she kept trying to fall asleep between the blasts. I am sure she will love it next year though. Thank you Karl and Karla for a wonderful time!
We decided to drive home that night (not the wisest plan)and didn't get home until after midnight. Although, along the way we did catch the fireworks from Bellingham Bay.

Catching up

I am so sorry that I have neglected writing for so long. It seems like the last few months have just flown by. I will do my best to catch you up on what we have been up to!
Josie finally started walking a few months ago and now seems to be growing up so fast. She climbs up on everything and is starting to say some new words. Of course daddy and mommy are still her favorites. She definately wants to be a big girl now.

Since the kids really enjoy being outside, especially getting dirty. We have been doing a lot of work in our backyard. We finally cleaned out the garden beds and Jack got to help plant some new vegetables,
Josie helped too!

We even made a designated digging area that they could play in.

Here is Jack cleaning up after a long days work.
